At the end of 2014, Girls Pint Out made a lot of changes – we rebranded, clarified our mission, moved the website, and became a 501(c)(3).
In 2015, we adjusted to these changes, grew tremendously, and big things happened! In 2015, Girls Pint Out celebrated its 5th anniversary. The organization grew to 83 chapters in 40 states. We partnered nationally with Uber. We had our second national event partnership with New Belgium Brewing.
Our chapters did quite a few collaboration beers with breweries, including:
- Indianapolis Girls Pint Out celebrated the Girls Pint Out 5th anniversary with a golden strong ale, Golden Girl, brewed by Scarlet Lane Brewing’s Eilise Lane and Thr3e Wise Men Brewery’s Keely Thomlinson.
- Tucson Girls Pint Out brewed Unite Red Ale for Pink Boots with Borderlands Brewing in March and kettle soured hoppy pale GPO Pale with Dragoon Brewing for our 2nd anniversary in September.
- South Carolina Girls Pint Out also brewed a beer for their 2nd anniversary – Girls Pint Stout with Swamp Cabbage Brewery.
- Vermont Girls Pint Out brewed two beers – a mocha stout with 14th Star Brewing Co. and a chamomile hibiscus saison with Switchback Brewing Co.
- Speaking of hibiscus, Palm Beach Girls Pint Out brewed a grapefruit hibiscus wheat IPA, GPOhhh No She Didn’t, with Funky Buddha Brewery.
- Columbus Girls Pint Out brewed Stay Classy, a Scottish wee heavy, with North High Brewing.
Some highlights to our year:
Susquehanna Valley (PA) Girls Pint Out
Susquehanna Valley GPO held an event to collect clothing donations for Dress for Success at Zeroday Brewing Company, owned by a husband and wife team, Brandalynn and Theo Armstrong. Brandalynn discussed their 3 year journey to open a brewery and her role as a woman in the beer business. Theo gave a tour and discussed some of his beers that were in the fermenters or aging in barrels. He also gave us some samples. The chapter donated 20 blouses, 4 dresses, 19 jackets, 24 pairs of pants, 8 suits, and a number of accessory items to Dress for Success!
Greenville (NC) Girls Pint Out
Greenville GPO held a Drink Pink fundraiser at the city’s new bottleshop to support Gardeners for Hope, the local organization that supports breast cancer patients and survivors. The chapter raised more than $1,000 for Gardeners for Hope through donations and t-shirt sales. Ladies also donated toys and books for children being treated at the cancer center.
Los Angeles GPO held a donate a backpack event at El Segundo Brewing Company. Participants donated a backpack or $20 in exchange for a GPO glass and beer. The chapter donated 25 backpacks to St. Lawrence of Brindisi located in Watts.
Rhode Island GPO held a bottle share at the Edgewood Cheese Shop. Attendees were treated to hearty cheeseboards and delicious finger sandwiches. Everyone brought a couple of beers to share, which were loosely grouped by style and opened throughout the evening. This was the chapter’s first bottle share event and it did not disappoint. There was an incredible variety of excellent beers to taste complimented by the cheeseboards and finger sandwiches. Nothing brings the ladies together like beer and cheese!
Delaware Girls Pint Out is fortunate to have Dogfish Head located in their great little state! Dogfish partnered with the Wilmington Blue Rocks during the 2015 season for Beer:30, a happy hour style event on the Dogfish Off-centered Fan Deck of Frawley Stadium. I immediately thought this was going to be a great event for the girls here in Delaware! This event was so special because it gave our Girls Pint Out chapter a chance to partake in one of America’s great traditions: watch a ball game with a (great pint of) beer. Our guy friends and boyfriends/husbands were jealous that it was a girls’ only event, and we all kind of loved that a little bit. The chapter was even featured in the Blue Rocks future advertisements for Beer:30 the rest of the summer. How cool is that?!
Grand Rapids Girls Pint Out is a new chapter and they held their second event at Founders Brewing. Founders treated the chapter to use of the private Centennial room, appetizers, swag, brewery tours, private bartenders and guest appearance from women in all departments of Founders. The night ended on an amazing high with compliments from the staff being the best crowd they have had a pleasure of hosting. Some of the staff even became members! This was the first event where the chapter leaders realized how much support Girls Pint Out has in the city’s beer community and the amount enthusiastic beer women in Grand Rapids!
Indy Girls Pint Out hosted their first Coffee Beer & Donuts festival. Thirteen breweries coffee beers – some made especially for the event – were paired with pastries from thirteen local bakeries. Four local coffee roasters that the breweries used to make their coffee beers were also there sampling coffee. The event was held in conjunction with IndyFringe, a local non-profit theatre. The event was such a success that Indy GPO plans on make it their annual signature event!
Omaha Girls Pint Out held a diaper drive fundraiser to help raise diapers for the Lydia House in Omaha. The chapter teamed up with Twisted Vine and Hawks Pizza and $1 for every beer and pizza purchase went to the fundraiser, and a portion of the painting cost also went to the Lydia House. The Lydia House holds a special spot in the hearts of the Omaha chapter heads, and it was a great feeling to give back to them. The chapter collected 1,180 diapers for women in need!
