Once a month, Girls Pint Out will feature in their blog several chapters meetings stories. Below are a couple of chapters from the nation who had fun and successful meetings. These stories best showcase the mission of Girls Pint Out.
Columbia, Missouri Girls Pint Out
Columbia GPO held their January event on the 31st at a new restaurant in town called Park Restaurant & Bar. They feature 20 beers on tap and rotate them frequently. They also have an amazingly delicious menu with small plates and a la carte entrees. Twenty participants attended, including eleven NEW members! The manager created five different specially tailored flight options for us. The food was delicious, beer was superb topped with an elegant and cozy atmosphere. Everyone had a wonderful time and said they were excited to attend our Galantine’s event coming up in February.
Rochester, NY Girls Pint Out
Finding out that many members of Rochester Girls Pint Out have rarely tasted outside their craft-beer comfort zones, we partnered with local beer emporium AJ’s Beer Warehouse (https://www.ajsbeerwarehouse.com/) and created an “Intro to Craft Beer”. Kristy Miner, one of AJ’s resident beer knowledge extraordinaire, had already been educating beer enthusiasts so we wanted to tap into that same keg of mastery.
On January 15th the group met up at AJ’s to learn a brief history of craft beer complete with related tastings. Kristy ran through the basics. We learned all beer, no matter the style is ultimately based on either an ale or a lager (or as we began affectionately calling them, “the mama and the papa”). We were taken on an expansive tour of the popular beer styles such as; the difference between East and West coast IPA, various Belgian variants, how the porter was invented, the growing array of popular sours and (my personal favorite) the origin of Russian Imperial and barrel-aged stouts. After each lesson, we were able to taste an example of each and every style. We had several ladies who quickly found new favorites!
Everyone learned something and had a great time getting to know beer and each other. We hope to bring more educational events to Rochester because learning should always be this delicious! If you ever find yourself in town, look us up and come have a pint. Cheers!
Petoskey, Michigan Girls Pint Out
The Petoskey chapter had its largest event ever in January! Our Snowshoe & Brew event drew 82 people. It included snowshoeing back to a trailside beer tasting with a bonfire and marshmallow roasting! Post-snowshoe, we all headed to the tasting room for some more sampling and beer trivia! The event was an overwhelming success and the Brewery is now interested in starting an on-going Showshoe & Brew series for themselves!
